Catalunya, Singapore

I was quite excited to check this place out with friends after viewing pages of delicious food feeds of Catalunya, Singapore.

We came down on a Wednesday night (their new ladies nights), featuring 1-for-1 cocktails for ladies, followed by a night of dancing just above the waters of Singapore. What I liked about the setting was the chance to dine with a view of the waters of marina bay just next to the window, and off Marina Bay Sands just where we were seated, such an lovely experience 🙂  No photos cos it was too dark!

Spherical Olive

Spherical Olives

We started with the Spherical Olive ($3 each). The thin membrane bursts in your mouth leaving an intense green flavor of olives. This molecular gastronomy technique employed here was made popular by Farran Adria.

Too bad El Bulli is no longer in operation. It certainly would have been on my bucket list to go!  I guess this will be the closest I ever get to imagining how it might have been like to dine there.

White Asparagus

White asparagus. $18. Specially flown in, steamed just right, with a nice bite, and topped with tarragon mayonnaise. I didn’t quite appreciate the fruit bits though. Thought the sharp flavor contrasted just a tad too much against the clean asparagus and cream texture of the mayonnaise. Sometimes less is more.

Avocado Roll

Avocado Roll

Avocado Battered Roll $20. Composed with crab, avocado, vegetables & mayonnaise. Flavorful & delightful. But portion was really too small… it was gone in no time..!

Reversed Gin & Tonic

Reversed Gin & Tonic

Really enjoyed this Reversed Gin and Tonic $28 (only 50 sets per made per week. Very limited edition!)

Martin Miller’s Gin with citrus peel, smoked & carbonated. And Martin Miller’s Perfect Pairing Home-Made Tonic with white cardamom, red pepper, lemon peel, grapefruit peel, cucumber.

Those olives look interesting! Do you think Catalunya is worth the hype? They have a branch in HK too but I haven’t checked it out yet!

  3. This really does look yumm! One of us is from Catalunya (the real thing – a nation in Europe, with Barcelona the capital), so seeing that name in Singapore was quite a pleasure 🙂 El Bulli is closed but you can always go the Roca brothers in Girona, Catalonia – they were voted best restaurant last year. Bon profit! (enjoy!)
