Eng’s Noodles House. Watch out for that lip blistering chili!

I wandered into Eng’s Noodles House whilst running an errand in Katong area. Rather lovely old school ambience, lots of families and couples enjoying a quick breakfast on a Saturday morning.  Table sharing is common when the place gets crowded.

Eng's Noodles Char Siew Wanton Mee

I ordered a small Char Siew Wanton Noodle (Dry) with extra dish of vegetables and a lime juice. The chewiness of the egg noodles was interesting. It is thicker & stronger than the typical hawker “yiu mian”, and without the strong ammonia smell. Warning about the famous chili… it is SUPER HOT!  Even for a chili padi fan like me, my lips were burning with each bite *ouch*

The bite sized wantons are sit and soak in the sauce beneath noodles. The meat was soft without the skin falling into pieces. I didn’t like the char siew though. Flavour was weak and too sweet for my taste. The soup was more like boiled water with spring onions for decoration.

I did appreciate the simply cooked vegetables (crunchy, not limp) and the cold lime juice… great for cooling down the chili!

Cost of above meal $9.

Actually how to appreciate the rest of the dish when you are already numb by the power chili.
