Recommended by friends, we were very pleased with this find tucked away from the “hard-to-find-parking” main eating streets of Geylang. Tonny Restaurant at Lorong 3 which serves up great Chinese / Cantonese fare at reasonable prices.
The Crispy Yam w/ Truffle Oil $16 makes a great sharing starter dish. Each mouth full of the finely sliced and deep fried yam is crunchy and full of truffle oil flavor. Might be a bit heavy on the palette for some.
The Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon $9. Looks so pretty! This is the signature dish of the restaurant, made of egg white and lobster puree. Very yummy! Liked the crunch of the egg roe against the egg white. The wonton skin bowl is also edible. Portion size is about a rice bowl.
Braised Australian Lamb Meat $28. The meat was tender, tofu skin very soft and the sauce was very savory, great with rice. Not for the faint of heart though as the meat smell is strong.
Baked Goose Web with Mushroom $24. If you like 鳯爪, this is not a dish to be missed. Super tender, almost falling off the bones, soaked in thick gravy… I scooped out every bit of the gravy from the pot! Also a great dish with rice, but we refrained from ordering rice because….
Pièce de résistance – Crab Congee. Thick and creamy congee flavoured with crab and abalone. Comfort food at its best! Staff will remove the crab from the pot before serving the porridge. Time to whack the sweet meat with your hands!
There are still so many other dishes I have not tried (only drooled over), hope to be back again another time to check them out!
Overall – 7.5
Ambience – 7.5
Food – 9
Price – Total spend on the above about $50 per head (with GST). Cheaper without the crab porridge
