We are already fans of the lunch menu options at Seasons, so when it came to looking for a conveniently located and comfortable place for a nice meal and place to chat (some places are way too packed and noisy), it was pretty much a no brainer to hit Seasons for dinner.
I went for the Surf & Turf and found it to be a rather heart-warming comfort food type of dish with a mix of everything in it. I like the mix as a whole, with chunks of shrimp, sausages and the rice, also how the taste of cilantro cuts across the mixture. It would be something I would like to do myself at home!
The Cauliflower & Haddock Parmentier was surprising hit amongst ourselves. Honestly I was not expecting much (cauliflower? really?) but we really enjoyed it – the baked & softened cauliflower with cheesy flavor 🙂 and the moist fish below. Not a fan of the mushy peas (would prefer a side of quinoa), but this is a dish that I would order again.
This version of Southend Pasta seems more robust than the first time I tried it 6 months ago. Although it’s still a bit too watery for my taste, it makes a great comfort dish and I liked the heartiness of the chorizos and the pasta.
On the sides we ordered the Crisp & Dips as starters. The bread is light (not heavy on the stomach) and goes nicely with the dips. We liked the Romesco dip (made from roasted peppers) which is similar in taste to chinese chicken rice chili (without the crazy intense ginger and garlic) and the hummus. Again, not so sure about the mushy peas with mint. Maybe more for the British palette.
This was an instant hit the moment the platter was set down. The perfume of truffle hit us even before we tucked in. Hot and crispy on the outside, mealy on the inside. Salted just right. Perfect on its own without any need for sauces.
Unfortunately the Cajun Fish Taco was a miss for us. We found it overly salty, and the fish dry.
My Rating 8/10
Food – 7.5/10 Generally enjoyed it. Will skip the taco and poutine next time.
Service – 6.5/10. Have to continuously ask for water refills. Also found myself explaining to the server why it is right for customer to have a receipt to show their in-house card* balance after the top up is made (is that not automatic?)
Ambience – 9/10 Love it that each table is reasonably set apart from the next, not noisy and not crazy-packed, and very convenient location (next to Somerset MRT)
Prices – Reasonable in view of the quality, location & ambience. It would cost much more for the same in MBS for example.
*Note: Their in-house privilege card gets you 20% bonus with each top-up of $50. This effectively works out to be a discount of 16.67% almost knocking off the service & GST.
