ゆず Yuzu Japanese Restaurant (Lunch Set)

In spite of visiting this area several times this year, I had not once noticed the inconspicuous door leading up to this airy, peaceful and modern zen-like Japanese Restaurant.  There is no signboard or street advertisement that hints of this hidden place on the 2nd floor of the shophouse (Hint : near 7-Eleven Holland Village).

Yuzu 01 - Sushi Counter
Around the sushi counter.

Yuzu sits upto a total of 30 pax, including a sushi counter, 2 side tables and a private room.  On the menu there are both Lunch Sets and Omakase.  Today, we try out their Lunch Sets (come with salad, chawanmushi, pickles, side dish, miso soup, dessert).

Yuzu 02 - Salad Starter
Starting with the house salad. Light and refreshing.

Yuzu 03 - Chawanmushi
Next, the silky soft chanwanmushi with intensely flavored broth.

Yuzu 04 - Nigiri Sushi Lunch Set
The main for the Nigri Sushi lunch set. 7-piece Sushi and sushi roll. Sushi here is very different from what you would expect from the more commercialized places. The rice is a compact size and at room temperature, and does not overpower the main ingredient i.e. the seafood.

Yuzu 05 - Wagyu Steak Don Lunch Set (1)
The Wagyu Steak Don lunch set, Japanese Wagyu-A4 beef with rice and onsen egg.

Yuzu 05 - Wagyu Steak Don Lunch Set (2)
The beef is tender and fattylicious, awesome mix with the soft oozing yolk with the rice.

Yuzu 06 - Yuzu Special Don Lunch Set
The house special, Yuzu Special Don, comes with uni, ikura, negitoro, and Japanese Wagyu-A4 beef, basically everything lah!

The fresh ikura bursts with sweetness, a nice reminder of the 1st time I that I tried it in traditional type seafood eatery in Otaru (Hokkaido). Very happy!

Yuzu 08 - Yuzu Dessert.JPG
Finally dessert, an intensely yuzu flavoured ice-cream. Light (not cream heavy) on the palette and nice finish to the meal. I wish there was more!

Overall, the quality of food was good and I especially liked the whole setting and presentation. Service still needs to get up to speed (by the servers), however they are friendly (just need to nudge them). It is on the pricey side (IMO), but if your budget allows for that special treat, I reckon it is worth trying the lunch sets just for the overall luxurious experience. (Note : it is less crowded on weekdays if you can make it, otherwise call to reserve for weekends).

In the meantime, I have already made reservations to check out the kaiseki-style omakase kaiseki on one of the evenings (they have a nice sake list!)!
